Supporting people who have lost a life partner

Social help and Inclusion

Losing a life partner at any age has a severe impact on well-being. We strive to counteract loneliness in widows and widowers through our work.

Caring Volunteers

We know the challenges widows and widowers face. Our volunteers are here to support through The Widows Empowement Trust in Manchester by engaging in social activities and through home visits.

Support Groups

Our aim is to build a support network with love and empathy around widows and widowers to improve their quality of life, happiness and self-worth.

In the news: Widows Empowerment and NCS

"That´s TV Manchester" recently featured a news story about how we are working with NCS to engage volunteers aged 15-17. Our goal is to strengthen the confidence and social skills of the young volunteers and bridge the gap between old and young generations

Are you our next young volunteer?

Widows Empowerment Trust is working with NCS this summer to give volunteers between the age of 15 - 17 the chance to gain work experience, build self-esteem and confidence whilst doing valuable work and promoting social inclusion for widows and widowers.

We have a large range of opportunities for young people, and need volunteers to help with the following:

1. Social events with the service users, where you join in on creative and fun activities like arts and crafts, karaoke or games.

2. Fundraising activities such as bag packing.

3. Volunteers can raise awareness about loneliness and the impact this can have on a person in the community.

4. Help with organising events such as “Never too Old to Play”, which is a day of sports, activities and games with old and new generations.

5. Raising awareness in the community about our workshops.

6. Organising sponsorship events such as walks, sporting events and bake sales.

You will work within a team of 13 other young volunteers, and have the chance to really make a difference!

As some of our users are are facing dementia, we offer extra support to them and family members. Also, we educate the community about the challenges they face for a better understanding of how dementia affects the individual, our society and how they can help.

Parachute jump for widows Empowerment

Our founder and leader recently jumped in tandem from 15 000 ft, despite her fear of heights to raise money for the charity. The promotional video for the event was covered by "That´s TV Manchester".

Members of the trust were lucky enough to be invited to a red carpet Christmas celebration at the Irish Centre, and received great feedback on our work in the community.
